STOPOVER IN PORTLAND
Spend the night in Portland.
If you arrive in Boston too late for a direct bus ride to Bangor, you may want to consider an overnight stopover in Portland. Overnight accommodations in Portland are considerably less expensive than in Boston. Concord Coach offers express service from Boston South Station to Portland throughout the day.
Travel from Portland to Bangor.
To reach Bangor, take Concord Coach from the Portland Transportation Center. To make connections with Downeast Transportation in Bangor (Monday through Friday), catch the Concord Coach bus that departs Portland at 10:00 a.m.
Travel from Bangor to Bar Harbor.
Downeast Transportation departs the Bangor bus terminal for Bar Harbor year-round Monday through Friday at 1:50 p.m. This bus does not operate on weekends or on Monday holidays.

For travel on weekends, try the Bar Harbor-Bangor Shuttle. This is a private company that for many years has operated through the summer season. We don't know for sure if they will operate in 2021. We will add a link here when one becomes available.
Taxis are available at the Bangor bus terminal and rental cars are available at the nearby Bangor Airport.
