PLAN 5: AMTRAK TO PORTLAND
Amtrak operates the Downeaster passenger train service between Boston's North Station and Portland. You can ride the Downeaster to Portland and transfer to Concord Coach or Greyhound. If your train arrives in the afternoon, you can stay overnight in Portland and continue north the next day.

Concord Coach and Greyhound will get you only as far as Bangor. In Bangor you will need to switch to Downeast Transportation (Mondays and Fridays only), or the Bar Harbor-Bangor Shuttle.

Remember that the Downeaster departs from Boston's North Station. All other Amtrak trains arrive and depart South Station.
